Unused Akira Storyboards

These storyboards for Warner Brothers live action Akira have found their way online thanks to artist Sylvain Despretz.  These were done when the first director, Ruairi Robinson, was attached to the film.  Akira is now of course in production limbo at Warner Brothers with no idea if or even when, it will ever get made.

Akira Shuts Down In Pre-Production

     Warner Brothers has shut down the pre-production offices on the live action remake of the popular anime film, Akira. The plan is to rework the existing script and scale down the currently $90 million dollar budget.  Warner Brothers insist that Akira is not a dead project and Garret Hedlund is still set to star as Kaneda and Juame Collet-Serra is still on to direct.
     I think a live action Akira is a good idea, if done right.  If you have ever seen the anime film, then you know $90 million already seems like a low budget for the film, and they want it even less?  Sounds like this project could die eventually...

Live Action Akira Film Gets The Greenlight

Akira, the immensely popular manga and anime film from the 80's, has finally been given a green light for a live action adaption from Warner Brothers. They have tapped Spanish helmer Jaume Collet-Serra (''Orphan,'' ''Unknown'') to direct the live-action version of the anime cult hit at a lower revised budget of $90 million..Production on the pic is set for a late February / early March start.  The manga and original film's director, Katsuhiro Otomo is on board as exec-producer. No word on who will star but Tron Legacy lead Garrett Hedlund is the front runner apparently.
