Tom Cruise Welcomes The Ghost Protocol

Tom Cruise is obviously making the safe picture since lately his career has taken a bit of a hit.  That safe picture is Mission: Impossible 4 which is now officially called Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol.  I'm ok with him making this, I enjoy the M:I flicks so why not have another go around.  It should be fun.  M:I 4 is due in theaters December 16, 2011.

CP Reviews With Andrew

Andrew is back with a Walking Dead special as well as a look at new comics this week!  Check 'em out!

Lost Costume Photos From Tim Burton's Never Made Superman Lives

Superman Lives was to be director Tim Burton's reboot of Superman in the late 90's.  The project began development with Nicolas Cage set to star but it obviously never did get made, and probably it's a good thing.  People may not have liked Superman Returns but Superman Lives probably would have ended up a  disaster.  You can find the script floating around online, and let's just say it wasn't very good.  Well some lost pictures have shown up on visual effects artists Steve Johnson's facebook page of some work that he did on it when pre-production began before the project got scrapped.  Interesting stuff to take a look at.

The Dark Knight Rises Details Emerge

So the conclusion of Christopher Nolan's Batman Trilogy will be called The Dark Knight Rises.  Nolan has also revealed that The Riddler will not be the villain and sources say he doesn't like Mr Freeze or The Penguin either.  So Catwoman possibly?  Did Two-Face really die?  Possibly not since Nolan said in his interview today that many old characters will return as well as some new ones.  Which ever way Nolan takes the film, it's sure to be another masterpiece.Nolan also revealed in another LA times interview today that the film will not be shot in 3D and gave his reasons why.
"The title of the new film is 'The Dark Knight Rises' and we will be shooting and exhibiting the film in 2-D. We want the look and feel of the film to be faithful to what has come before in the first two films. There was a large canvas and operatic sweep to 'The Dark Knight' and we want to make a film that will carry on with that look and feel."
"Stereoscopic presentation would have significantly changed the feel of certain 'Dark Knight' scenes, such as rooftop and aerial shots in Hong Kong that created vast and startling night vistas. There’s an intimacy at times with spatial illusion of the 3-D effect and we didn’t want to lose scale."

"Our ambition for the third movie is to complete a story that has begun. This is not starting over, this not rebooting. We’re finishing something, and keeping a consistency with what’s come before has real value. We’re looking to do something technologically that’s never been done before. Our ambitions are to make a great movie."

The Dark Knight Rises is set to be released on July 20, 2012!

Batman 3 Has A Title

According to the LA Times Hero Complex blog, Christopher Nolan has decided to call Batman 3:

The Dark Knight Rises

Interesting title if this is indeed legit and in the interview he also confirms that the Riddler will not be the villian. “We’ll use many of the same characters as we have all along, and we’ll be introducing some new ones,” Nolan said cryptically. He also confirmed the film will be shot in IMAX but not in 3D.  Thank goodness for that!.

DC Unveils New Look Superman From Earth One

Behold a Superman for the Twilight generation. This skinny, brooding hoody wearing incarnation of The Man Of Steel will appear in DC comics upcoming Superman: Earth One, and will feature in a story set in the early days of the superhero as he comes to terms with his powers.

"We wanted to tell a story that's hip, sexy and moody," said DC Comics' co-publisher Dan DiDio. "We wanted to show a younger Superman at the early stages of his career, struggling with his identity and his place. He realizes he doesn't belong anywhere and doesn't fit in."

Why does DC keep trying to mess with Superman?  Hopefully it's for the storyline purposes and it serves that purpose then they move on.

Norrington Off Crow Remake

The Crow is one of my all time favorite graphic novels and the 1994 film starring Brandon Lee is still to this day one of my favorite comic adaptions and films period.  So a remake of The Crow is right up their with remaking Star Wars or Indiana Jones.  You just don't do it!!  Last year a remake/re-imagining project began to take shape with Stephen Norrington on board as director.  He saw it as a hyper realistic take on the story of Eric Draven, all though many rumors said the character wasn't even named Eric Draven at all.  The script had been written by Norrington and Nick Cave.  In the last few days rumors have circulated that Mark Walhberg had been offered the role.  Ok not the worst choice but not the best either.  Now suddenly Norrington is off the project completely.  He has said that an unnamed star was anxious to work with him but didn't like the script and demand a rewrite.  So Norrington is moving on.  There is no indication given that it was because of Walhberg but either way it's over for him.  Personally I hope this project dies completely. They already made absolutely horrible sequels and a remake of this film is totally unnecessary.  Hollywood really is running out of ideas.

The V.G.F. Report

NBA Jam Coming to Xbox 360 &  Playstation 3

A Sports has finally announced an official price point and release date for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of NBA Jam. However, those with a proclivity for online play might not be thrilled.
The arcade basketball title will drive the lane for high-definition consoles on November 17 at the same $50 price point as the Wii version. The game was originally set to be included exclusively with copies of NBA Elite before that game was indefinitely postponed in late September.
When the game ships, players will be able to take part in the game's Remix Tour and Classic Campaign but will have only limited access to the game's online multiplayer component.
According to EA Sports, players choosing to take their skills online will have only one avenue in which to do so on launch day. Players can jump into the classic two-vs.-two online mode on day one but will have to wait until December for a content update that will bring a host of new features.
Those with connected consoles who download the free title update, due out at an unspecified date in December, will score Remix Games. These games include Backboard Smash, Domination Free-for-All, Elimination, and 21, and they are playable both online and off.
Also due out with the content update will be Jam Party, an online mode where players can invite up to three others to play. Finally, with the December update players will be able to take their skills to the next level in Online Progression. This mode lets players build and level their character through a series of online challenges.

Cars 2 Speeding Into Theaters Next Summer

Of all the Pixar films Cars is probably the weakest but it's also extremely popular.  The kids loved it so naturally a sequel is coming to theaters.  I enjoyed Toy Story 3 a lot but it seems Pixar has even given in to the sequel thing and can't come up with a original ideas.  I have heard that Monsters Inc 2 is coming next.  Sigh.  Anyways, here is the teaser trailer for Cars 2, due next summer.

Fans have demanded it, the most unprecedented and horrifying night in American history continues as the next chapter of Night of the Living Dead is revealed at last! Set on that fateful evening in 1968, shocking reports from rural areas continue to flood the airwaves with accounts of the recently deceased rising up to kill the living. Now government officials begin counter-measures to calm an increasingly panic-stricken public. Questioning whether or not the unbelievable stories are truth or simply an elaborate hoax perpetrated by militants opposed to the Vietnam War, the attention of the nation's Capitol is focused on a threat more believable, as thousands of protesters converge on Capitol Hill to voice their opposition to the War. But with National Guard forces spread impossibly-thin to deal with civil unrest, Washington D.C. is completely unprepared for an event that will forever change the course of the country, and perhaps the world, as an unstoppable army of the undead begins to flood the city, bringing their blood-thirsty reign of terror to the very steps of the White House!

Drive Angry With This Trailer

Nic Cage is back doing what he's good at -  a big dumb action flick.  It's a supernatural thriller called Drive Angry where he's running from thr devils right hand man it seems.  This movie looks like a hell of a lot of fun though and the trailer is pretty decent.  Check it out!

The Hulk To Return To Television

Marvel continues to move forward with numerous movie and television projects, now it seems the Hulk is making it's way back to television on ABC.  The Hulk was of course an extremely popular television show in the late 70's and early 80's starring Bill Bixby and Lou Ferringo  There are no creators attached to this, as it is being shopped for writers and development.  The Hulk will play a major role in the upcoming Avengers movie in 2012 directed by Joss Whedon.

The DVD Update

Welcome to this week's edition of The DVD Update.  Not a lot of big announcements but I do have some cover art and some release dates for some high profile upcoming Blu-Ray's and DVD's so here you go check it out and decide how to spend your money!

Hard Boiled
In Stores December 14th

John Woo's action classic finally hits Blu-Ray.  I actually own the DVD of this same version and the transfer was the best the movie has ever looked so I imagine on Blu-Ray it will look even better.  If you have never seen this and you love action movies then you are missing out.  America owes a lot to this film and Woo's other classic, The Killer, which is already available on Blu-Ray.
The Expendables
In Stores November 23rd

Sly Stallone's balls to the walls action flick hits this November.  As hyped as this was, I don't know anyone who saw it but I'm sure it will hit huge for home viewing!  It's loaded with extras and a sequel is already int he works so check out the original when it hits stores!

Shrek The Whole Story
In Stores December 7th

This includes all four Shrek movies in high definition for home viewing!
Shrek Forever After
In Stores December 7th

The "final Chapter" of Shrek hits stores just before the holidays so you can put it under the kiddos Christmas Trees.  I quoted final chapter because this one made a bunch of money too so don't be surprised if they make another one!

Last but not least this is the trailer for the Avatar Extended Edition DVD.  Avatar is a love it or hate it movie it seems, but a lot of people loved it and it made a lot of money.  I enjoyed the movie and even at home I liked it just as much and may have to double dip this one to see what James Cameron added back in to it!

Green Animated Tales Are Coming

A panel was held at New York Comic-Con this past weekend and much was revealed about the upcoming Green Lantern The Animated Series.  Here are some show details followed by some concept art.

The show will run for at least 26 episodes, with the first 13 episodes already planned out.

The main villains of the show will be the Red Lanterns, although the other coloured Lanterns will show up at some point.

Sinestro will not feature in the first 13 episodes, although he will be getting built up over the course of the series for his eventual reveal.

This is very much a space-based series, which means the other major DC superheroes won't be making any appearances anytime soon.

A preview will come out in late 2011, but the series isn't slated to premiere until the spring of 2012.
