Trailer Park: Total Recall (1990)

PRESENTS:

TOTAL RECALL (1990)

Trailer Park returns!  It's revamped! It's wicked cool!  It's the place to see a classic trailer and film posters from the movies that you love!  From the movies that make us geeks and Comicpalooza fans!  The movies that define the times and make us amazed, astonished, and shed a tear from time to time!  It's the Trailer Park!!!! Enter if you dare! Enter if you want to be thrilled!  Enter because you know you want to!

This month in Trailer Park we have Total Recall.  For some reason they are remaking this film.  Why?  It's beyond me, but maybe it's because Hollywood is remaking everything lately!  But the original film is a modern science fiction classic.

The film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and is directed by Paul Verhoeven.   Verhoeven had also directed the classic Robocop a few years earlier.  Total Recall also starred a then unknown Sharon Stone, and Michael "I'm a bad ass" Ironside.    Here is the synopsis from imdb.com: Douglas Quaid is haunted by a recurring dream about a journey to Mars. He hopes to find out more about this dream and buys a holiday at Rekall Inc. where they sell implanted memories. But something goes wrong with the memory implantation and he remembers being a secret agent fighting against the evil Mars administrator Cohaagen. Now the story really begins and it's a roller coaster ride until the massive end of the movie

And what a roller coaster ride it is.  Full of gratuitous violence, women with 3 breasts, and all sorts of other strange and weird characters, Total Recall is science fiction fun!  Watch the exciting trailer below and look for the pointless remake later this year!

Trailer Park: The 90's Batman Films Part 3 - Batman Forever (1995)

Welcome to Trailer Park!  When last I left you we were taking a look at the 90's Batman films.  Trailer Park, if you don't know, takes a look back at classic or not so classic films by showing off their movie posters, and trailers for the film!  With the third chapter in the Batman franchise, Tim Burton would depart as director and Joel Schumacher was in.  Batman Forever was the title and the very cool poster tot he left might be the coolest thing about the film.  The film series would take a much noticeable change in looks with a more "comic book" approach, meaning a bit more campy and silly.  Michael Keaton was out as Batman and Val Kilmer was in.  Mega star Jim Carrey was added as the Batman nemesis Riddler along with Tommy Lee Jones as Harvey Dent/Two-Face.  Robin would be introduced to the series also and was played by Chris O'Donnell, which might be the only saving grace of the film.  Yes the film is pretty bad.  Back in 1995 a lot of us liked it, but that was before Christopher Nolan showed us how it was done.  Or maybe you never liked the film, either way it was a huge hit at the box office and led to the fourth and most awful film in the franchise, Batman & Robin, which will be featured in the next Trailer Park.
Marketing for the film would again use character posters highlighting the heroes and villains of the story.  The film would open during the summer blockbuster season and would also feature a highly popular soundtrack with a hit single from artist Seal.  Problems apparently occur ed often on set, mostly due to Val Kilmer being a not so nice guy to work with, and high production costs to get the film done on time.  The overall product is by no means the worst comic book movie ever made, but it's not that great either.  The film has some nice moments, and at the time it was all we had until Mr. Nolan came along!  Check out more posters below and trailers for Batman Forever!

Trailer Park : The 90's Batman Films Part 2 - Batman Returns (1992)

Welcome to a new edition of Trailer Park.  The look back at the 90's Batman films continue with part of the series spotlighting Batman Returns!  Batman was a huge hit so a sequel was only natural.  Michael Keaton would return as Batman, and the villians this time would be Catwoman and Penguin played by Michelle Pfeiifer and Danny Devito respectively.  Tim Burton returned to the directors chair and once again the movie would be a smash hit at the box office.  The title was a bit weird because I'm not exactly sure where Batman was returning from except back to theaters, but the film worked and many believe it to be better than it's predecessor.  It would be Burton's last turn in the director's chair for a Batman film as well as Keaton behind the mask. Keaton was the only man to play Batman twice until Christian Bale who is currently filming his third Batman film for Christopher Nolan.
The plot was a bit preposterous, as The Penguin wanted to take over Gotham city by becoming it's mayor and using mechanical penguins to attack the city.  All very comic bookish in only a way that Tim Burton could pull off.  And believe it or not the studio wanted even more camp and comic book like for the third film and that's one of the reasons Burton walked away from the franchise.
Marketing for Batman Returns stayed with the darker tone that Burton's Batman films featured.  The posters featured character posters for the Batman and the villians, as well as a classic teaser poster (see above).  The trailers also stayed with the dark tone presented in the film.  Check out the posters and trailers below, and next time I will take a look at the franchise's turn into a more colorful comic book movie with Batman Forever!

Trailer Park: The 90's Batman Films Part 1 - Batman (1989)

Trailer Park returns spotlighting the 1980's/90'sBatman series.  This will be a series of four editions as we look back at the original four Batman films.  It starts with one of the most classic comic book movies of all time, Tim Burton's Batman.  Most people either love or hate this movie, but most have fond memories of it.  For many of us, it was the first "real" comic book movie we ever had.  We stood in line for hours to go see it, we were amazed at just seeing Batman and Joker on screen and most of us own it in some form for home entertainment.  The marketing for the film as far as posters goes was very simple.  It featured the gold Batman logo as the a teaser poster and the final poster simply added the credits.  You can see the teaser to the left and the final poster below.  The trailers are typical 1980's style trailers making sure you know who the stars of the film are, and that it would feature a real live action Batman film!
The film was of course a huge success at the box office and went on to spawn three sequels.  Batman Returns was received well also as was Batman Forever.  the fourth and final film in the "first" Batman series of films, Batman & Robin, is forgettable in almost every way.   As forgettable as the fourth film is, it will still be featured in this Trailer Park series.  Painful I know, but we will allg et through it together! Christoper Nolan is currently filming his conclusion to the "second" series of Batman films with The Dark Knight Rises next summer.  Nolan's films may be far superior to the 1980's/90's Batman films, but they hold a special place for most fans and will always be remembered in the hearts of those fans for years to come!  Enjoy the classic trailers for the film and look for part two featuring Batman Returns soon.

Trailer Park: The Killer

Trailer Park is back and slightly revamped.  With Trailer Park a classic film is spotlighted by movie posters and the films classic trailer!  Today Trailer Park presents John Woo's 1989 action classic The Killer.

The Killer (1989) Recently a remake was announced to start filming soon and produced by Woo.  Many people out there have still not seen the original film and though it is a better film in some regards than Woo's better known Hard Boiled, it hasn't held up the same cult status that Hard Boiled has.  An extremely violent Hong Kong action film, this is the story of an assassin, Jeffrey Chow (aka Mickey Mouse) who takes one last job so he can retire and care for his girlfriend Jenny. When his employers betray him, he reluctantly joins forces with Inspector Lee (aka Dumbo), the cop who is pursuing him. Together, the new friends face the final confrontation of the gangsters out to kill them  The film has influenced film makers across the world with Woo's kinetic intense action scenes   If you love action and have not seen this film then check it out!  It was recently re-released on a two disc DVD and Blu-Ray set in the Fall of 2010.  In the mean time check out the film's posters  and trailer below!

Trailer Park: Clash Of The Titans (1981)

Welcome to the return of Trailer Park.  A semi new regular feature here at the Comicpalooza Blog where I look at a classic film by simply checking out some poster art and showing it's classic trailer shown to audiences in theaters.  Today it's the original Clash Of The Titans.  The film is a cheesy guilty pleasure classic for a lot of people and the last of the great stop motion effect movies.  It's 2010 remake was fun but doesn't have the charm of the original.  So here is a look at some poster art for the film and to top it off, it's trailer.

Trailer Park: Superman II

Welcome to Trailer Park, a brand new feature at the Official Blog Of Comicpalooza!  What is Trailer Park?  Well many of us enjoy seeing the trailers at movies so we know what is coming soon to look forward too.  People have even gone to the movies just to see a trailer like back in 1998 when people went to see Meet Joe Black just to get a glimpse at a small film called Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace. So with Trailer Park, from time to time, I will highlight a classic film and show off it's original trailer or trailers, and some poster art from the movie.  Enjoy!
