Akira, the immensely popular manga and anime film from the 80's, has finally been given a green light for a live action adaption from Warner Brothers. They have tapped Spanish
helmer Jaume Collet-Serra (''Orphan,'' ''Unknown'') to direct the
live-action version of the anime cult hit at a lower revised budget of
$90 million..Production on the pic is set for a late February / early
March start. The manga and original film's director, Katsuhiro Otomo is on board as exec-producer. No word on who will star but Tron Legacy lead Garrett Hedlund is the front runner apparently.

This article shows that change the setting, the names and race in the history of changing characters. And change enough to not be worth it. If we want to do things what to do as the source was created.
