Pure fun as Marvel Avengers Assemble undoubtedly is anyone claiming this is the best comic book inspired movie is surely forgetting The Dark Knight? Perhaps this is the film that stays the truest to the spirit of the comic book and that is something to be applauded - it's just that my palette is a little bit too savoury to fall head over heels for this one and I'm still expecting the next film in the Batman franchise to be more my bag. Don't get me wrong, this is still in a different league to the grimy and turgid Watchmen debacle, and it goes without saying that this renders the Fantastic Four as totally obsolete - it's just that I wouldn't be surprised if in the inevitable sequel everyone starts breaking into song and continuously referring to Dorothy.
