Dredd Images

Comicpalooza & Extra Life Team Up For The Release Of Diablo 3 & Max Payne 3

The Avengers Break Records At The Box office

By now most of you know The Avengers absolutely ruled the box office this past weekend with a $207.4 million dollar opening weekend.  It is the highest grossing opening weekend of all time, the fastest ever to $200 million, and the single best Saturday ($69.5 million) and Sunday ($57 million) of all time.   The Avengers was fantastic.  One of the best super hero movies ever made, and most certainly the best Marvel Super hero movie made.  The franchise will continue with Iron Man 3 in May 2013, Thor 2 in November 2013, and a sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger in 2014.  The Avengers, as if you didn't know, is now in theaters.

Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes Sequel On The Way

Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes was one of the big surprises of 2011 and now, 20th Century Fox has officially given the sequel a green light for a hopeful 2014 release.  Fox CEO Tom Rothman had this to say about the sequel:  "That’s very much on the tracks. We’re developing a script. Rupert Wyatt, who directed the first one, will direct the second one. We’re pushing forward aggressively, so the script’s being written now."  Rothman also went on to confirm a possible 2014 release date for the film: "Yeah, I think it would make sense if we can, you know we serve no wine before it’s time, but the goal for us would be summer of 2014, if that’s possible."  
     In an interview with MTV Rothman had even more to say about the film: "I think one of the big questions they're wrestling with now, which is kind of the fun, is how far forward do we skip?" Rothman said. "When does it start? Does it start the next day? The next year? Does it start in 10 years? Does it start in 50 years?"
      "The script for that 'Apes' film was fantastic," Rothman explained. "We had the script for 10 years, and I always knew it was one of the best scripts. I just didn't think it was possible to do it. I thought it couldn't be done. We've got to have a great script. Because now, having made that good a movie, we better make the next one better."
     Rothman also confirmed that Andy Serkis will return for the sequel to be motion captured once again.  The untitled sequel to Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes will be in theaters in 2014.

First Official Look At Django Unchained

Information on Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained has been scarce, but finally two official stills have been released for the film.  Jamie Foxx has also been talking about the movie and whether or not he thinks the film will be controversial, and he had this to say: "Oh, hell yeah. You kidding me? There's a beautiful way [Quentin Tarantino] found for the characters to talk to each other. It's mindblowing. You've never heard it this way. You've seen movies deal with slavery - or westerns that never dealt with slavery - do it the safe way. This way is like ... wow. Christoph's character is a little aloof to what slavery actually is. He's not familiar with everything, and when he sees atrocities, it's Greek to him. But Django lets him know this is the way the world is and we got to get used to it. He teaches Django certain things he needs to become a whole man, and [Django] also teaches Christoph that when life deals you these cards, here's what you've got to do. All Django wants to do is get his wife. He's not trying to cure or solve slavery. He just wants to get his life back."   
     Django Unchained opens on Christmas Day.
