The V.G.F. Report

It's Video Game Fridayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!  And here it is!

DC Universe Online

DC universe Online is coming to PC and Playstation 3 in the very near future and Jim Lee recently sat down and commentated on some things in a director's trailer.  Check it out here as well as the original trailer for the game!!

Star Wars The Old Republic

Bioware has given a  reason to players to play something else besides Jedi class when The Old Republic hits next spring.  Smugglers will have a constant companion in Bowdaar, a Wookiee gladiator who started his career in the arenas on the moon Nar Shaddaa, also known as the Smuggler’s Moon. It sounds like Bowdaar will work like a pet in Warcraft, for use as a tank or crowd control as the situation warrants.  Smugglers can either specialize in dual-wield Gunslinging becoming  “master of the trick shot” and “first to dive for cover and willing to take advantage of every opportunity." There's also the stealth based Scoundrel who doesn’t have time for “politeness or a fair fight”, and tends to always shoot first and ask questions later.

Red Dad Redemption Double XP Weekend

Red Dead Redemption is an awesome game but i ahve yet to get into the multiplayer too much. This weekend though your deadly efforts will be rewarded handsomely for the next three days as Rockstar is holding its second double XP weekend for the hit western shooter.

Director's Short List For Superman Film

I really like Superman Returns a lot.  I enjoyed the nostalgia of it.  The airplane scene was incredible.  I had no problem with the casting and overall I thought Bryan Singer made a great Superman film.  I know though a lot of people didn't like it and Warner Brothers wants a new film in theaters in 2012.  Christopher Nolan is going to produce the film and apparently has a short list of directors he is interested in according to Deadline. The report says, "Nolan has starting meeting candidates Tony Scott(Unstoppable), Matt Reeves(Let Me In), Jonathan Liebesman(Battle: Los Angeles), Duncan Jones(Source Code), Zack Snyder(Sucker Punch), this week and will submit his choice to the studio within the next few weeks."  So those are the candidates for the reboot of Superman.  I really hope it's not a complete reboot.  Everyone and their grandmother knows the origin of Superman and it was told very well in the 1978 original.  I have faith in Christopher Nolan though so let's hope for the best.

Steve Rodgers Spotted On The Cap Set

Chris Evans was spotted on the set of Captain America: The First Avenger and it was a never before seen all-new all-bulked up Chris Evans!  INF Daily has lots of pics for you to check out!  Captain America hits theaters in Summer 2011!

It's A Bird, It's A Plane, It's A Smallville Premiere Clip!

This is a quick clip from tomorrow night's final season premiere of Smallville.  The producers use to swear "no flights and no tights" but looks like they are going to go against that in the final season!

New Trailer For Harry #7

There's a new trailer for Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 1.  I'm not a huge Potter fan, I've one, two, skipepd three and four, then saw five.  I've had part six on my DVR forever waiting to watch it.  So I'm a very casual fan, but this new trailer for the latest installment is pretty awesome.  Check it out!

All Star Trailer

Following Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, DC's next animated feature will be All-Star Superman. The title will hit stores in Winter 2011 and you can watch the trailer below, thanks to MTV. The trailer will be included with Superman/Batman: Apocalypse.
Based on Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely's 12-issue "All-Star Superman" series, the animated movie will feature "Desperate Housewives" actor James Denton as the voice of the Man of Steel, "Mad Men" actress Christina Hendricks as Lois Lane, and "Without a Trace" leading man Anthony LaPaglia as Lex Luthor. In the story, Superman is faced with mortality and  has to decide what is truly important to the last survivor of Krypton.

Smallville's Chloe To Debut in Action Comics

Chloe Sullivan has become a popular character on the television series Smallville.  She will now be making her comic book debut and DC and Comixology.com have brought everyone this ten page preview of her debut.  It's not the first time a popular DC television star has crossed into comics continuity, Harley Quinn of course did it after being extremely popular in Batman The Animated Series in the 1990's.

Spider-Man Promo Poster

The new Spider-man reboot movie hits theaters in 2012 and will be in 3-D.  Sony released this promo poster for promo art usage leading up to the film.  For a reboot the font sure looks like the original trilogy of films.  Maybe they don't want to distant themselves from the Sam Rami films all that much or maybe Sony's marketing sucks.  Either way I think the whole thing is a bad idea and would rather have seen Spider-man 4 even if they had to recast it all

You may or may not know it, but you're familiar with the art of Drew Struzan. If you've seen the movie posters for E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Star Wars, Back to the Future or Big Trouble in Little China, then you have seen his work.  Struzan has a new book out called The Art Of Drew Struzan and I thought I would share a couple of pieces I thought were cool!

Flash Cakes And Glo Balls?

In the 1970's DC Superheros teamed up with Hostess Snack Cakes for a verity of ads and promotions including some cool mini comics.  Now they have teamed up again for Flash Cakes and Glo Balls featuring The Flash and Green Lantern!  You can find them now in your local grocery stores.  Check out this site to see the old DC Comic ads and strips from the 70's and check out the one below!

Star Sapphire In Green Lantern? Doesn't Look Like It!

Blake Lively chatted with MTV and was asked about playing Carol Ferris in Green Lantern following her role in The Town.
"To get to do a role like this that is so dark and so different and so broken and then to go be in a superhero movie opposite such amazing actors and an incredible director, and not just be the damsel in distress, be a fighter pilot, be his boss at the company, to play women with strengths are the characters I'm most attracted to," Lively said.
Carol ultimately becomes the villain Star Sapphire in the comics, but will there be any signs of that in the first film?
"No, not yet," Lively added. "Well, I mean, there are always winks and homages to certain things in the comics for the fans, but I don't think you know yet how evil she turns."
The Martin Campbell-directed Green Lantern is scheduled to hit theaters on June 17.

The V.G.F. Report

It's Video Game Friday!! A little game called Halo: Reach launched this week and more so here's what is going on!

Halo: Reach
In the first 24 hours after the game went on sale on September 14, the game raked in over $200 million in the United States and Europe. (Canada was not mentioned.) Though not enough to beat the multiplatform Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's record of $310 million in 24 hours, it was enough to best Halo 3's $170 million day-one haul in September 2007. The last Halo game, 2009's Halo 3: ODST, made $125 million in just over two weeks.

Blu-Ray 3D Playback Coming To PS3
Sony continued its 3D initiative by announcing that the next PlayStation 3 firmware update would add 3D Blu-ray movie playback capabilities to the platform. Currently, it is the only console to offer standard Blu-ray playback and/or 3D gaming.
The 3D-enabling update, v3.50, will be pushed to consoles via the PlayStation Network on September 21, 2010--next Tuesday. However, only a few Blu-ray titles currently have 3D versions, including Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and the just-released Monster House. A 3D-compatible television is also required to view the games in 3D, with Sony's electronics business offer offering several models in its Bravia line of high-definition televisions.

SWAGAPALOOZA Special Report!

I didn't do any regular comic book picks this week because it's a fairly slow week at the shops so instead we have a look at another one of Marvel Comics bone headed moves.  Marvel these days seems to not realize that the answer to selling comic books is to tell good stories.  Instead they are looking for the next "concept" story to sell more books.  I can't help but wondering if the things we are seeing from Marvel are a result of them being bought by Disney.  Vampires in the X-Men and other places in the Marvel Universe?  Hulk Vs Red Hulk for the upteenth time? And Dr. Doom is still trying to take over the world?  When I pick up a DC book lately I realize the stories they are telling lately are the reason I love comics in the first place.  They are science fiction, fantasy, and adventure all in one with characters you grow with and come to appreciate, respect, and love!  From Batman, to Green Lantern, to The Flash and more DC is doing things right lately, but more on that in a moment!

In their latest move to revive a boring character and to sell books, The Black Panther is replacing Daredevil in Black Panther, the Man Without Fear! he is taking over Daredevil's role as protector of Hell's Kitchen in the aftermath of Shadowland. Being presented by novelist David Liss and artist Francesco Francavilla, the series will keep the Daredevil series' original numbering, debuting as Black Panther: Man Without Fear #513 in December. T'Challa, the Black Panther, finds himself in a post-Shadowland Hell's Kitchen trying to pick up the pieces that Daredevil left in his wake. Can he become a true man without fear in this brand new environment?

Are you freaking kidding me?  Daredevil has always been a very interesting character. His problem was that a lot of writers didn't know how to handle him.  That all changed with Brian Bendis, and then Ed Burbacker.  They were the first writers that knew how to handle Daredevil since Frank Miller int he 1980's.  The Black Panther on the other hand has never been interesting or cool!  Having him take over for Daredevil is not a good idea and it will sell well for the first few issues, until people realize how lame and boring he is, the book ill sink, just like every other Black Panther monthly book Marvel has produced over the years.  Maybe Marvel will prove all wrong but I don't have my hopes up.  They seem to be searching for whatever sells lately instead of going for quality and writing great comic books unlike there competition.

If you haven't picked up a DC book lately, do yourself a favor and try them out.  I haven't read one that I haven't like but when I see Marvel books at the shop lately I flip through them and can't believe the stuff they have done with the characters we grew up with.  DC's Blackest Night crossover last year was the best crossover I had read in years and perhaps there is some good stuff in what Marvel is doing.  I have not read them I will admit, but when I see what they are doing when there are vampires on the cover of the X-Men I can't help but cringe.  And now The Boring, I mean Black Panther replaces Daredevil!  The saying use to be "Make Mine Marvel", not for me now a days.  Yet I'm still looking forward to Captain America in theaters!!

Priest Posters To Sink Your Teeth In!

A bunch of posters for the upcoming Priest movie are out and well, here they are!

It's The Defender Of The Universe!

Voltron has been long rumored to be in development for a few years now, especially after the huge success of the Transformers franchise.  Joblo.com is showing off to pieces of supposed concept art from a pitch for the film. It appears that Atlas Entertainment has taken the reins on the project and is gearing up this pretty impressive pitch. Apparently, they've hired the currently hot screenwriting tag-team of Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer.  The duo is writing the upcoming Conan movie and more. Voltron would be awesome as a movie if done properly.  Just don't let Michael Bay anywhere near it!

New Superman/Batman: Apocalypse Images

In Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, on DVD and Blu-Ray September 28th, a spaceship splashes down in Gotham City Harbor -- leading Batman and Superman to encounter a mysterious Kryptonian with powers as great as those of the Man of Steel. The Kryptonian is soon revealed to be Kara, cousin of Superman, who takes her under his wing to educate her about the ways of Earth. However, the villainous Darkseid has other plans. Seeing an opportunity to finally defeat Superman, Darkseid abducts and gains control of Kara, utilizing the powerful Kryptonian to do his bidding. It’s up to Batman and Superman to save Kara, but they’ll have to take the fight to Darkseid within his hostile world – where unknown, deadly threats lurk around every corner, including a brainwashed Kryptonian able to match Superman blow-for-blow.

Tim Daly and Kevin Conroy return to their seminal roles as Superman and Batman, respectively. The guest cast is headed by Andre Braugher as the daunting Darkseid. Summer Glau provides the voice of Supergirl, and Ed Asner reprises his "Superman: The Animated Series"/"Justice League" role as Granny Goodness.

Now check out these new images from the movie.
